Spindle bushing thrust cutter question

Post by Stephen_heatherly » Wed May 18, 2022 7:47 am

Does anyone know where I can get a face cutter like the one used with the spindle bushing thrust cutting tool sold by the vendors? I'm looking for one to build a set up for cleaning up the thrust surfaces on the axle yoke.

Stephen

I use a small piloted counterbore.

I use math & cut them in a lathe before installing new bushings in the spindle.

Dan, where did you order the counter bore? Do you have pictures showing your method?

Thank you,
Stephen

Stephen,...I don’t have the specific face cutting tool you requested but I have an original spindle bushing face cutting tool used by mechanics of the era - that I’d loan you. I’ve used it for decades with great success. BTW, I only face the lower brass bushings because the T s entire front weight is on the upper brass bushings so I leave it full thickness.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

He is facing the axle yoke, NOT the spindle bushings.
I will post a picture later of my set up. May start producing it. Dan
