My 19 touring had some leaks I was sealing up. I took the engine pan inspection cover off today to replace the gasket and seal it up better. To my knowledge, this was the first time in 33 years the cover has been removed. Can you guys take a look at the photos I took and see if you notice any issues or something that shouldn't be there? Does everything look pretty typical?

Thanks!

Well then, someone 33 years ago put in aluminum pistons, and some mighty fancy non stock rods, that have cast in dippers. And they used rather modern lock nuts on the rod bolts. The rebuilder also marked with red paint the matching sides of each rod and cap.

Otherwise looks a bit dirty, a good cleaning by taking out the u- channels and cleaning around and back would get out some sludge one could find. Did you check the rods for movement on the journals? They shouldn't be easily pushed laterally with the fingers.

The builder at that time used pistons made by JAHNS, the problem they had was not having oil holes drilled for the wrist pin and ran the risk of locking up. But after running for some 33 years, yours don't seam by what can be seen in the photo's to have issues.

Looks pretty typical.
While you have it open I'd suggest you get some plastigauge and check the clearances of the rods and #2 main.

Those are stock rods and caps. They were drilled/tapped and oil pickup tubes installed. Just another way to do the job.
