1926 Runabout Top Saddles

Hello
I bought a set of nice Top Saddles with Support Arms from a member here. Prior to purchase I checked Lang’s to be sure they fit, Lang’s catalog appeared to match indicating they were for ‘23-‘27. But they don’t. Where they should thread into my body, the receiving bracket is not threaded. I guess I should’ve looked up the car instead of the catalog, The thread’s major diameter is larger than the receiver hole.

Can anyone advise where I went wrong, and the proper Support Arms for my Runabout?

Thank you in advance.

It looks as if the mounts in your body were meant for a longer stud with a nut. The mounts in the body for the top saddle arms on my 26-27 roadster are threaded. The internal diameter of the threads it just a hair over 5/8". ** The top saddle arm mounts are about 14" behind the rear of the doors.

That makes sense, but as of today I have not seen such a Support Arm. I suppose I can make one easy enough and no one would be the wiser.

NOTE: The top saddle arms mount back toward the upper rear of the body. The top iron pivot is mounted forward of that, just behind the door on a roadster. Are you looking at the top iron pivot bolt mount? It looks as if the top iron pivot bolts, Lang's # 48090X, 26-27 roadster, would fit the mount in your picture.

It looks like it may have the remains of a hollow tube of some sort that has been broken.

The (non-threaded) top iron pivot mount is 2" behind the rear of the door and about 2" below the top of the body. The (threaded) top saddle mounts are located 12" behind the top pivot bolt mounts and about 1" lower.

That is correct, this is the rear mount, at the back corner of the body. Not the forward one near the door. That’s next.

It does look like that, but it does not appear to be threaded.
And it is exactly like the other side. Here is a photo of the other side.

Yes, thank you, I am aware. This is the real most mount in the back of the body not the pivot mount next to the door.

That's odd. Could it have a threaded bushing in it? Threads stripped? Better check with Ken. It's definitely different from mine, and different from what the repro parts are meant for.

The copper color item shure looks like a bushing of some sort. See if you can remove it. It should not be there.

Thanks, I sent Ken an email.

That’s a thought, I’ll see if I have an easy-out that’ll fit it.

Jim Sims and TXGOAT2 get to split the grand prize!

I removed the bracket from the body and got it out into the sunlight. Shure ‘nuff there was a piece of 1/2 copper pipe jammed in there.

Got to go pull the other side, clean up the threads and figure out how to hold the nuts in place while I put the bracket back on!

Thanks all for the help!
