Russ Furstnow's work. Probably the best speedometer head I've ever seen. And get a gander at the steel swivel, unique to that year. Russ, my boy, you have truly done a beautiful job.

It only took me 17 years to find a workable cast iron swivel for my 1912 van. They are scarcer than hens' teeth. You have a nice set-up there. Russ sure knows his stuff, and does beautiful work.

I recently purchased a complete Stewart #26 speedometer head in a second hand shop.
Not bad for $50!
Now if only I can find a cast iron swivel!

The forged steel swivel is unique to 1912 and early 1913. The swivel is quite hardy, but the internal gears are specific to this swivel. Some have dope cups of brass and some have steel dope cups. Russ Furstnow

Russ, I have your book. Have you considered selling digital, on a disk or thumb drive.? That whay you can add new information as needed, so the new drive or dicks are up to date.?

Darel, I have my speedometer book on a CD, and that is for sale. I have thought about writing a second edition/revision to the book, BUT the time that would take would be overwhelming, and I'm not sure if there would be any great interest in the small details about speedometers I have uncovered. At the time I wrote the book, I was unsure if there would be much interest in speedometers, but it seems the book has been well received. Thanks for the question. Russ Furstnow

Have you considered creating an article with just the notes regarding the small details about speedometers that you have uncovered?
I for one would be interested.
I restore antique clocks for a hobby and have a model engineers lathe.

Hi Steve, I've had many speedometer articles published in the "Model T Times" that contain new information that you might find interesting. I think I have enough new information for another book, but that will have to wait as I'm in the process of completing some restorations (a 1917 Coupelet, a 1912 Torpedo, and some Model T's for my grandchildren).
