My 26 T magneto quit suddenly. The mag output has been low (15 volts) for some time. I have the shim devise to take up the main bearing slack/mag gap but haven't had the energy to install it. The switch and wiring are good. I removed the post and cleaned/checked it. Still not working. I installed a repro post and have mag again. It appears that the spring loaded center contact may be intermittent. When I compress the contact, I can wiggle the post and see varying resistance readings with my ohm meter. Anybody ever experienced that malady? Is my only option to replace the post? If so, does anyone have one they will part with?

I had a case where I brought a car out of mothballs for a car dealer after 60 years. Exact same situation.

I kept cleaning the post and roughing up the solder blob and shaking my head...

Finally when someone was visiting with me (moxie26) he changed the mag post with a spare...life got good and stayed good!

The magneto contact is one place I prefer to utilize an original Ford part - some of the repros seem to have "issues" !

I will advertise for one in the classified section. I only bought the repro part as the quickest way to trouble shoot the problem.

Do you have an outside oiler - maybe from the side of the hogshead to the #1 main bearing ? If not, please consider an original magneto post outside oiler. I have one on all my T s. The splash system moves a huge amount of oil to the front of the engine..
