Lower Firewall '26-"27
Anyone have the pattern/drawings for a lower firewall for a '26-'27?
I'd like to deflect some of that summer heat.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
You're going to have to be either a lot more descriptive in what you're looking for or at least provide pictures.
Generally speaking, "low firewall" and "26-27" are mutually exclusive and I think that is why you are not getting responses yet

Good heat defector that works for me is to tack some sheet metal under the upper floorboards. Esp. over the manifold and exhaust pipe side.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
Thank you again Dan! I’m preparing my ‘26 tudor for a big tour and your comments made me pull out my upper floorboards. The thin insulation I stapled on was long ago gone so I applied better insulation with the full knowledge of rolled up sheet metal ‘flashing’ in the barn. So I cut it to fit and screwed it onto the insulation and underside of the floorboard. ...Much cooler ride !! Thanks again
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
I put this product on my exhaust manifold because I replaced the stock hood that had a heat shield with a carbon fiber one. The hood was getting hot and it concerned me. Whether it was needed or not doesn't matter. It did the job! I can drive for an hour and able to touch the wrapping material. Theoretically it is also supposed to help extract the hot exhaust gases. It basically a fiberglass material and comes in different lengths and colors. While its a bit pricey its easy to put on and well worth it. There are different brands but I'm stuck on this one.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
So..... the below pictured "deflector" is found on the bottom of pg. 100 in the 2021 LANG'S catalog. THAT is precisely what I was referencing on my INITIAL post....
I was merely inquiring to see what others had come up with, hopefully on a bigger and more effective scale to increase comfort on a warm 90+ degree New England day..... plans, drawings etc...
So in that regard, I thank most of you for your kind and thoughtful responses.
I have used the wrap on my '23 with great success. My '26 project is still in the "R+D" stage, hence the posted topic...
Surprisingly, a particular somebody can't offer a "friendly" suggestion, and only do an attempted immitation of one of the balcony guys as pictured below..
Given the responses, for which I am grateful, some of you clearly got what I was asking about in the initial post, and refrained from taking on the role of the 2nd guy in the balcony.
I do not wish to get ensnared in linguistic gymnastics, or semantic banter amounting to ridiculously deriding and petulant behaviour and comments.
Not surprisingly, I continually get PM's and msgs asking me why a particular someone responds, at best, negatively to some of my posts. Something to the effect, "Hey, what's his problem?"
Good luck if you can answer why.....
So it's ever so apparent that it just ain't me that's seeing it.... just saying.
Being asked if I dump my waste oil in the vicinity of my drinking water well took the cake on a clearly irrelevant comment in a recent topic I posted on....
Advice, yes I'm giving it this time, is throttle back the 'tude, dude!

The catalog part to which I was referencing in the initial post...... Had no idea of scale not had I ever seen one installed on a car.
And that's probably because THEY'RE NOT PRODUCED anymore!
UNAVAILABLE last time I asked.....

I was not trying to be sarcastic or unhelpful. I simply didn't understand what you were asking for. You've taken me to task one other time in the past, even explaining to people that you were "fishing" for the response you got, and then kept at it over and over until it became clear that I wasn't going to play that game.
Perhaps you will tell your adoring audience that even AFTER that expert Trolling of my response and your efforts to continue to "bait" me (your words, not mine), you had the Major Cojones to engage me privately on the PM system asking for advice on a subject for which you hadn't been able to get a solution from anyone else...Deciding to be the better man after your thorough public trashing, I obliged you, without ever mentioning previous unpleasantness, and we had a very pleasant and beneficial discussion without any snotiness. It seems that when you are completely out of options, you apparently can have a decent conversation, though as I recall, "thank you" was never part of any of your messages.
Good luck to you in the hobby.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
My 24 Coupe has the draft deflector as pictured. First time I thought about it since it was mentioned here. And it does work. That’s another accessory that does work. I inherited the 24 in 1958. It must have been on the car at least since then and probably longer. So the idea of a deflector has been around a long time I guess.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
I just had this thought....
My '23 is a lot cooler to drive than my '26. The only difference between the two is one has a rubber floor mat on top of the floor boards.
That at least is the beginning of why one car is so much warmer than the other.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
If you do decide from a previous post to cut metal sheathing, I would suggest to put two or three metal washers between the sheathing and the wood and use flat head wood screws to attach.... this way the metal in part would not be in contact with the wood but given a airspace will dissipate heat better.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
Question: Do you have the splash/dust pans on either side of the engine? on either Model T that you have.
The intent of these with the hood closed shut was to create a negative pressure zone inside the engine bay and the air passing over the louvers with further extract the hot air pulled through the radiator.
So if the pans were removed, the heat that you may be feeling is from it blowing down under the frame as opposed to out the louvers
Just a thought....

My '27 roadster has engine pans and a deflector. No pedal or brake lever boots, and no Ford floormat. I don't get much heat from the engine in the car.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
Well maybe we're onto something then! Perhaps those "splash shields" are really "passenger compartment heat deflectors"
So we have a good test case to see what works for the Professor

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
Pat I’ll ditto the same result. I also add a 6”x8” piece of roof flashing on the bottom of the floor board above the exhaust pipe. I cut 2 magnet spools in two and use them as spacers between the boards & flashing so air flows between the boards & flashing. It will help keep heat off the boards. Use wood screws to secure the flashing at the corners placed through the spools.

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
Robert, I decided to add my contribution to the thread based in part because of your post & Pat’s. When I first came up with the idea was after installing a new exhaust pipe. I drove my T several times after the installation but nothing that would be more than a short jaunt, a few miles or so. Then one weekend I decided to use all the gas in the tank and then refill with real gas instead of corn/gas. It ended up to be a 100 mile plus drive. About halfway through the drive I caught the faint smell of wood burning & couldn’t figure it out, perhaps I thought it was someone burning limbs or debris but noticed whom ever was doing that must be in front of me somewhere. About 3/4 into the drive & coming to a stop sign, I saw a whiff of smoke coming up from the cracks in the floorboards. Certain parts of my body synched up and I pulled over to inspect. As I looked under the T I saw charring on the bottom of the boards above the exhaust. I had some bottled water and doused the area till it stopped smoking. That’s when I bee lined it back to the house. Ended up bending the exhaust pipe a bit and added the flashing. Problem solved. Most likely it was how I had the exhaust pipe positioned or how it was made but needless to say I had some thinking to do. Ha

Re: Lower Firewall '26-"27
John... I'm glad you and the car were saved due to your quick action and having water available. A smoldering floorboard with a pending fire near the gas line is serious enough.. on the safety side we should all have extinguishers in our cars.
