I recently picked up this set of 5 Olympic 30 x 3.5" clincher tyres. One is brand new, the other 4 still showing moulding marks. Now Henrietta has her 5 original rims fitted, all with matching tubber. These are the ones which are really hard to wear out.[attachment=0]20190414_112014.jpg[/attachment

Dave, half worn Olympics like these will outlast anything you can buy today. Best of luck to you. Lucas ended up with the molds from Olympic. In the USA, I have seen this tread on tyres branded Lucas and with no brand in the usual spot on the side wall. I do not know how well these variants perform, but it couldn't be any worse than rubbish foisted on us today.

Are Olympics still being made? I had some years ago, but wore them out.

Olympic tyres of any description have not been made for many years now. We still have them in use on much of our farm equipment, but the company has gone. Bridgestone were the last tyre manufacturer to have a plant in Australia, and that closed 10 years or so ago.

Too bad- Olympic tires were great and looked good also. I have a 40 year old set of 20" on our speedster and they are finally worn to the point where they are getting replaced. I would buy a new set if they were available.

Dan , Olympic gave the old car movement advice that they were ceasing production of clinchers in the early 1970's . Anyone with a few dollars to spare salted some away for later use. That makes these around 45 years old. I took them off the plated rims and mounted them on the original rims on Henrietta. It was almost pleasurable to work with properly made, supple rubber tyres and tubes.
The company was eventually submerged in the Dunlop conglomerate in 1980. Sir Frank Beaurepaire, founder of the company, was an Olympic champion swimmer, hence the brand name. Can't see that happening today!!!! Ironically, he founded his very successful tyre and cable making business to break the monopoly Dunlop-Barnet Glass tyre makers had in Australia.

Hi Allan,
I attended a Southern Motoring Assoc. meeting the other day, where I learned that NSW's RMS consider any tyre (on any vehicle, vintage cars, vintage tractors, M/C's anything) that's more than 7 years old, illegal.
So much for the 27 year old Firestones on my '21 that still have their moulding marks.

Rob, exceeding the speed limit is illegal too! Just don't get caught. If tyres are not fit for service after 7 years, perhaps we should apply the same rules to bureaucrats too.
