Now that retired engineer Terry Burtz has designed an improved Model A engine block with five main bearings, oversized insert bearings and full pressure oiling is there any reason the same can't be done for the T?

I think its already been done by les Schubert in Canada.

You dont need all this extra investment to do 70, however your motor will last many more miles in theory.

70 MPH at a high idle in high gear....

Harry, only if you mess with drive ratio's.

I don't know how long a stock driveline would survive 70 MPH, but a 5 bearing engine with a counterweighted crank making about 45 HP could push most Ts to 70 or beyond with no durability issues.

Just don't forget about STOPPING that 70 mph T!! And what about those old dry spokes spinning twice as fast as they were probably designed for? Don't forget to check and update your life and liability insurance too!!

Running 70 in a T on a stock front end and Rocky Mountain brakes with wood wheels doesn’t sound safe to me unless I said “I ain’t scairt” which I won’t say or do. Just my opinion. Nice idea for some I’m sure.

Really Stock T engine, A carb, home made exhaust, 3:1 in a Ruckstell, A-C brakes & A wire wheels. The best I can do is by the GPS is 69.9 mph.
It was on the freeway with almost no traffic.

Thats respectable for a stock engine.
Add a high compression head, a cam & a little bigger intake valves & you'll pull those 3-1's better.

End result: a fast old car, but not a Model T ....

A full-fendered T speedster.

The high compression, Chaffin's cam, speedway manifold, Tillotson carb, A-K dissy with not yet built header engine is going in a speedster with a 10 tooth pinion & a Warford = 3:1 gear and it should pull that rather well. I'm not a fender fan even My 1919 firetruck only has 2. I have had over a thousand Kids in my firetruck think what that will do to the hobby if just 1% get into the hobby. But by some standards its not a T? It will do 60mph in Muncie over drive. (Period correct accessory) If we continue to bicker with each other about little stuff we will do to ourselves what the environmentalist's are trying to do to us. If all the automotive hobbies would get together we could make the NRA jealous.
