How does this tool work?

I picked this tool up a few years back and I'm not sure how to use it. I think it's for spreading open a tire. Does anyone have pictures of how it was used? Says Firestone on it.

Looks like it is for installing tire chains.

Whatever it is it’s for clamping or pulling something together. Might be for putting on tire chains. Could be for spreading a tire open to put on a vulcanized patch? Or?

Well if it says Firestone that’s a clue it might have used for tires.

Looks a lot like a tool for drawing chains tight on the tires. See this 'Marvel' tool:

May be a fork lever for removing tire lugs. Early larger rim clincher tires used these lugs to help hold the tire on, the lug passes through the felloe.
Since Firestone made all sorts of tire apparatus, could be a special design like the forked tool on this 1913 catalog page.

I believe the FIRESTONE stamping is misleading since it is not the correct script for the tire manufacturers brand. It may just be a strap puller, maybe to remove an oil filter

Did a internet search and found that Firestone made several different kinds of tools and most have a Firestone scripted name on them but not all. They made tool sets and they had a catalog for their tools. The catalog was mentioned by a guy on a site called garage journal that has followers and tool collectors. I didn’t know they had a division that was tool dedicated but I guess they did for a good while.
But nothing about the tool that’s in question on this post. And the script wasn’t always the same but close it seems. Not many in block letters so ????

Wow! I can't believe I found a tool that no-one has seen before. Firestone knock off? It does look like it's for pulling something.

Some 50+ years ago when I started work in the motor trade, the shop had a tool looking the same, to tighten a strap/chain around the circumference of tubeless tires to seal the bead while inflating.

Congratulations Robert. It's a dubious honor indeed.
This may be a similar tool.
