Babbitt price $$$

Post by Dan Hatch » Mon Jul 04, 2022 8:23 pm

Anyone price Babbitt late? I just looked at my supplier for Ford mix. $200 for 7 lb block. They use to offer a discount online for large orders, not anymore. Have to call to see if they do.
Engine building just went up.

My supplier went up about 120% and a minimum of 10 kilos. I think they try to flip the stock as quick as possible so they don't get stuck with the dear stuff if the stock market price drops for tin.

Dan, Yes, the price of it is skyrocketing, the cost of the babbitt to do the seven mains and the six rods recently in this 784 ci 1910 Thomas engine I rebuilt was outrageous.

Dan , Henry , and Frank :
i just ordered ground and polished steel for my boring bars in the linebore unit i build ... price is up 23% in just under 3 months ... aluminum is also very high and increasing at a similar rate ... i will be re-posting my advertisements here on the MTFCA site and on Ebay to reflect this increase ... the cost increases and materials supply difficulties make it hard to plan for efficient production or inventory planning ... i still have fun with my kids and grandkids , their needs are simple ... WORK is still alot like WORK ... and WORK is a 4 letter word ... still an optimist ...Gene French

Dan, did you actually call them to see if there is still a discount? It used to be a minimum of 6 bars and it calculated the discount for you. Now says to call for volume discounts.

One thing that you also didn't mention is the cost to get 6 bars shipped has become as much as one bar costs!! :o
