This image was taken at the Labor Day races in 1927 at the Pompano Beach, FL, Race Track. The Miami-Dade Library described this oddball Ford machine fitted with a small six-cylinder L-head as a "Junk Racing Car."

Check out the T chassis fitted with a nice amature-made racing body, sheet metal wheel discs on T wheels, and the aircraft style cable frame truss. It appears it might have an oil cooler made of tubing behind the front radius rod mount; and note the undersize bolts that attach the split radius rods to the brackets.

What do you find of interest in this photo?

Goodyear Balloon if I am reading correctly although there seems to be an X? Between good and year. Blockley style tread.

Is that a 6 or an 8? The "X" might be the Goodyear wingfoot logo.

Looks a bit like a 6 cylinder Essex engine.

The best 6 of that era was the Hudson. Dodge and Chrysler also built good ones.

I have a really rough 29 Essex engine and aluminum transmission ,I will have to look at it and see if there is similarity.
Chassis has holes for cast iron running board brackets so must be mid 20 or older.

It looks pretty nice for a "junk racer"! Great photo and a bit of history besides.
Thank you David G!
