Old Photo _ Auto Shop

With the blackboard on the rear wall I thought this might be a mechanics school or even a design department. The first car could be a 1909 T I think. Are those one piece spindles? Also the steering spider has been mounted upside down.

Automotive engineering class? I see aprons, but nobody is wearing mechanic's duds. No line shaft or machinery, so no repair going on.

What a wonderful photo !! Sure looks like an '09 ! Pretty sure those are one-piece spindles, I think I can see "wings" on the radiator script, and the radiator cap has thin, high fins. Funny to see the steering wheel inverted. Apparently even that early on, a lot of folks felt the way Ford built it looked "wrong" somehow.
Most intriguing. Sure looks like an instructional situation, though there's a work-bench with a vise and other equipment. I wonder what that "box" is that's diagrammed on the blackboard ? An oiler ? Coill box ? I love how they slung that body from the ceiling ! Any clues as to the makes of the other two cars ? Wouldn't it be great to be able to read the year and month on that calendar . . . ? Anyhow, it appears to be 10:50 am . . .

The 09 column is very short, I often drive with a cushion behind me. I have seen photos where the wheel was reversed and the levers bent up

Square front fenders, no bill. Early '09 T at left front of photo.
Great photo.

I think the square-off front fenders were unique to part of 1909.

The second car (which they're working on) looks like a 1907 Pope-Hartford model L

With everyone wearing suit and tie, I imagine a teaching of teachers...
Instructors training instructors.
Anyone know what the body hanging overhead is ?

Also intriguing to me is the fact that a short-drop Octagon wind-up clock is on the wall and so far up. It will take quite a ladder to get to it every week. If this was any type of manufactureing facility or a facility of greater size, there would most likely be an electric slave-master system for timekeeping. Light bulbs show that there is power to the place. BTW, looks like it's about lunch time!

Thanks for the Pope-Hartford idea Les. The radiator and cowl said Pope-something to me but I couldn't find a matching photo. I'd like the third car to be a Mercer but doubt it. Possibly a T-head though. They look as though they are studying theory more than making repairs.

I have say this is an event for auto repair or design of some sort. It’s to clean and the guys in the aprons are to clean to be a working garage. Neat photo!

Les, I thought Pope Hartford as well for the second car, except I couldn't find a picture of one that had the same radiator mounting to the frame and the same shape at the bottom of the radiator.
I also thought the radiator on the third car looks like the picture of the 1904 Pope Hartford below.
