Balancing trans drums.

On a recent post photos were posted of a balanced brake drum. Because this drum is bolted directly to the driven plate, I asked if any material was removed from the driven plate to help in the balance.
Here is what was behind the question.
This drven plate casting was poorly aligned in the fixture for machining and appeared to be machined way off centre. I machined the plate as shown. Then I trued up the outer diameter. When the driven plate was bolted up to the brake drum, and the assembly put on the balancing jig, nothing more was required! I have never had it so good before, but it goes to show there may be more than one way to skin this particular cat.
