Would someone describe how to insert the window glass into the door on my 1927 coupe?

It was 51 years ago when I did it and my memory is fuzzy, but I believe I positioned and riveted in place to the front side of the door nearest the windshield, the felt guide (interior right side of the left door, interior left side of the right door), then inserted one side of the glass into the installed felt guide. I then held the window in the opening with a couple of pieces of duct tape stuck to the inside of the window, over the top of the door and the other end of the tape stuck to the exterior of the glass so it hangs by itself while fitting the other felt guide into the opening, threading the flexible felt channel down side with the glass in the channel and riveted it in place to the other side. I redid the felt channels in my 27 Tudor which should be similar. I took the top off of the door frame and the upholstery panels. The old channels were held in place with hooks top and bottom. I removed the old top hooks and riveted to the new channel, I slid the new channel in, secured the top hook but ended up riveting the bottom in place.I then just slid the glass into the channel from the top and into the regulator channel at the bottom. The top of my doors had the same channel secured across the top with screws.

Thanks Jim, I will consider your method. I think it will hard to get the last felt channel into place due to how tight the 5/8" repop channel fits in the retaining channel.
Jsaylor, Your method for a Tudor won't work on a coupe. The top of the door can not be removed.

If the top of the door can be removed, that would be the easiest way, but I don’t think the top of the coupe door comes off. Since the glass easily slides up and down between the felt, it should be just as easy to thread the felt between the channel and the glass. You may need to manually slide the glass up and down as yo thread it to help thread the felt in place. That could require installing the window crank mechanism and rolling the glass up and down in the felt channels. Jim Patrick

Does anyone know if there are written instructions on how to install the window glass on a 1927 coupe?

I've decided that perhaps removing the door and placing it flat on a table would make the window and weather strip installation a bit easier. No need to hold the window up with tape, etc. Sorry, I haven't yet tried this method.

I agree that the tape might not be necessary if you have someone hold the window, or install the window crank mechanism to hold the window up as you slide in the felt. The felt channel is flexible and will slide down each side of the glass and latched to the guide as described earlier. Latch the bottom clips with the window all the way up and the top clips can be latched with the window all the way down. Jim Patrick
