Among the seemingly endless wrong things on my '26 Runabout, the front engine mount nuts are wrong. This is what came with the car.




Clearly, the nuts are not 3809B castle nuts, which I now must find. But, where on a Model T would these 3/4" thick nuts be used? Are they even Ford nuts? When I install correct castle nuts, should I reinstall the lock washers too? That seems to me to be a belt and suspenders sort of thing.

You’re right Mark. Those 3/4” nuts are not to be correct on your ‘New and Improved’ Model T. Correct castellated nuts aren’t difficult to find. Email me if you can’t find any closer to home. I have lots. I use lock washers with the correct nuts only because I’m too lazy for cotter keys and my T s are only drivers - not show T s,

I feel you! looks like someone went with the long nuts to get more of a "bite" on worn threads. Also looks like that motor /mount spring clip was for a car that had 1 or two more leaves in the spring pack.

I counted spring leaves a couple of years ago. It was 8 leaves if I recall correctly. That should be right for a '26. Do you think my spring clip bar, 3810, is upside down?

Check to see if it is the correct mount. Does it have the boss for the screw to fasten the front apron to it with a screw?

I believe your mount is upside down. My '26 '27 roadster has a small gap between the ends of the mount and the bottom leaf. Lang's or Chaffin's online catalogue may have a picture that would clarify.

You should have a screw hole in the front for a screw on the splash apron which is just below the crank. There should also be a pad above the spring between the spring and the frame member. The bar under the spring should be turned opposite the picture. It is upside down. Then the castle nuts with the cotter pins. I'd take a picture, but don't have a modern camera. I am an old man set in my ways

Thank you. Mark, I do have the threaded boss holding the bottom of my apron.

Does your motor mount have this hole to attach the apron?

I found these two photos on the same page of the encyclopedia. The left photo has the spring bar installed like mine. The right photo has it inverted. One of them is correct.

The bar faces up to support the spring.

Maybe My point was not understood. In Marks photo the length of the threads is so long that when he puts the castellated nuts on and tightens them up the cotter pin hole will be way at the bottom and useless. Do they come with shorter thread lengths?

I was wondering the same thing. I don't know where the pin hole is since I have not taken this apart. I don't want to take anything apart now that might keep me off the road for a while. I have club outings planned for the next three weekends, which is the only time I have to work on my car. I will look at the parts books to see what I can find. I will report back when the time comes.

There are two front mounts for the '26-'27 one is for the car, p/n 3075-C, the other is for the TT, p/n 1164 B it has longer threaded shanks for the 9 leaf truck front spring, and the threads are larger dia. too!
