26-26 top iron fabrication

Post by fordt » Wed Aug 10, 2022 4:00 pm

Howdy all, I’m fabricating the “third member” top iron (the one that attaches to the windshield) for my 26 RPU and have acquired some older top irons that I’ve bead blasted and will start hacking on to make these two pieces. I’m going by the measurements of the photo here showing these irons to be 29” long and figuring that this is a total length and not to the two attachment “pins” that slip into the other back irons. It’s only probably a 1/2” difference in total length, so probably not too big a worry. My other questions about this picture is that the wood flat portion at the top of the right 29er iron looks longer than the left one? Also, does the windshield fitting screw into BOTH the top iron wood and the wood crosspiece?
