Does anyone know what the tool looks like to stake this type of rivet? These photos are from a '13-14 front side curtain in bad condition.

A normal tube rivet tool you are familiar with has a center raised tit.
The type that splits the tube has radiating raised edges. Looks like a daisy.
I have seen them in those large foot operated brake riveting machines.

They are called "Tubular Rivets". The shank is hollow to a certain depth depending on the thickness of the materials being riveted together.
The die used is called a "Tubular Rivet Setter" or "Splash Anvil" (see photos below). I bought one on ebay for $29 with shipping. It is for rivets with a 1/8" dia. shank.

The "Tubular Rivet Setter" can be used in an Arbor Press, or used by hand with a hammer, with a little finessing.

Here is a link to a youtube.com video showing how it is done. "How to Set Tubular Rivets in Leather".

That die does a nice job. Pretty.
Larry cant use such a tool to set rivets. This would be an "over restoration."

I appreciate the response to my post. The average T guy would never care about such a thing, but I like to know that stuff! Thanks.

I too enjoy knowing these kinds of things whether I need to or not.
Even more, I really like everything about the photos you posted. That old stuff is truly beautiful.
Thanks
Rich

I'll second John's and Rich's comment.

Thank you for sharing these important details with us Larry.

McMaster-Carr or Big Flats Rivet Company may have the tool you need.

Mike.

I think a semi tubular rivet would work just fine?

I received the new rivet setting tool pictured above yesterday. I'm glad I posted this question. I've been doing riveting all my life, and never heard of this tool. This is the real purpose of this forum.
