So just browsing YouTube, I know there is the pig n ford races and the Bruderheim races. Why has no one or have they?, formed a model T racing series or small groups around the country? Cars like the pig n ford race cars would be much cheaper to build then most race cars you see weekly at your local short track. Just seems like a somewhat affordable way to have some vintage racing fun. Thinking out loud....

Insurance?

The Alberta boys just finished a two day Model T race schedule at Dinosaur Downs tonight.
The previous race date was July 1 and 2. It moves up north later this month.
The cars run a 1/2 mile dirt track which is outside the regular 3/8 dirt track used for the more modern
racing iron.
Insurance and medical services are provided mainly through the regular dirt track
competitors programs. The track runs on a volunteer, not for profit basis.

It has been tried several times. Insurance is one of the big issues!
One of the biggest problems is the potential for liability, coupled with the club politics. Some people want to go whole hog crazy! Most people that get involved are too short sighted. Those two things get together and the serious hobbyists realize the ridiculous risks the others are exposing them to and get as far away as they can!
A few total fools in "hold my beer" mode get lucky and aren't killed, and the whole thing falls apart. Been there, seen that, several times.

There are several well run activities in California and Arizona, as well as the Northwest Vintage Speedster Club that puts on several activities every year. The Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club has been holding their annual Speedster/Racer Endurance run for more than fifty years now! The Endurance Runs, whether SCVMTFC, Arizona, or the Northwest group's may not be the same as a half mile dirt track? But they are a lot of fun!

The most fun I have ever had EVER! Was the Calistoga Classics Dirt Track Racing Reenactments held for four years nearly fifty years ago! It was very well run, and all the people were good friends. As much as we kept it fast and showy, and in the beginning safe distances were the rule, it was real racing and real racing speeds! After four years, drivers were becoming too bold, and taking too many chances, There were a few close calls, minor damage and nobody was hurt. But there were a couple outsiders that insisted on being included with cars that were not really authentic. And they wanted THEIR way! A club had been formed, and club politics got in the way. And THAT was the end of the Calistoga Classics.
