Weak emergency brake.

Hi all, my 1924 touring emergency brake is weak. If I am on a driveway with a gentle slope it won't hold the car. Testing it while under way does not result in both rear tires skidding. It is only a long tepid slow down. As far as I can tell everything is in order. What can I do to make it more effective?

Crawl underneath it and loosen each brake rod from the arm..very simple...and turn the Clovis inward mayne two turns, re-attach and try the brake. Just don't over adjust them. Its also A sign your brake linings are wearing and may need replaced.

Unless it's been altered, a 24 doesn't have linings on the rear shoes, does it ?
I agree it should hold, but not meant to be used while rolling. Tim's method should work, I would add to make sure both are engaged equally while adjusting.

Since Scott posted his pic..I thought it would be a good time to mention to use the one piece brake shoe rather than the 2 piece set-up. Lately the 2 piece shoes have been a bit "oversized" and you cannot adjust it out, without them still dragging the drum in high gear mode. Trust me..I have a brand new set in the drawer that won't work. Had this happen on 2 different cars too. And heck, they're also much easier to install! And yes, some cars may still have the shoes with no linings. Get rid of 'em!
