FJ - 1921 Model T Kampkar Is The Centerpiece Of The David Woodworth Collection
The Anheuser-Busch Kampkar version was an adaptation of
Sam Lampert’s Lampsteed Kampkar that was sold
as a kit to fit onto a standard Model T chassis
that could be ordered at your Ford Agency or Dealer
for $535 that was shipped by train.
There are no sales records to be sourced
so no one today is quite sure how many
Anheuser-Busch actually made when they
were contemplating producing commercial
vehicles with truck bodies ….
Only two 1921 AB Kampkar examples are believed to
remain in existence today & this one can be purchased
as part of The David Woodworth Collection
along with vintage travel trailers - camping
equipment & accessories.
The David Woodworth Collection also includes
The Tin Can Tourists Archives from the beginning.
I have been in communication with Mr. Woodworth
regarding passing the collection on to a new owner
over the past year and next week I will be
conducting several video interviews with him
featuring professional sound engineering
and editing detailing his Life and Collection.
Mr. Woodworth has been a Hero of mine going
back to 2003 and I finally had the opportunity
to meet and visit with him when I picked up
a Model T in Spokane, Washington a few years ago.
He is the leading living authority on
vintage camping - trailers - vehicles.
He has served as a professional consultant
to many organizations including The Smithsonian.
I am looking forward to this opportunity.

That is an interesting camper (kampkar) design! I wonder how much it weighs compared to a traditional body.
The future of our hobby does not depend as much on youth, but on the future of internal combustion.
The past is only simple because hindsight is 20/20.

From a practical standpoint - it would be nice
if it had rear brakes - since it was restored
I think it would have to be weighed on a scale.

David Woodworth’s parents ( in the front seat )
pulling a homemade travel trailer with a Model A.
This picture is from around 1932 when
his parents were moving to Anchorage, Alaska.

Re: FJ - 1921 Model T Kampkar Is The Centerpiece Of The David Woodworth Collection
The weight of the Lamsteed is virtually the same as a two door Model T Sedan but would be able to have equipment and other content to add considerable extra weight as it has a water tank (8 gal), an ice box, two wardrobes and storage lockers below seat level on both sides of the body the size of two single beds plus more on the running boards and under the sides of the rear step. The Harrah's Lamsteed has Rocky Mountain brakes and David's would also as it has a Rocky Mountain two speed tail shaft.
This is Harrah's Lamsteed you can see the tap for the water tank just above the ice box storage locker and the external rear brakes.

David continued the family tradition
with his two daughters by taking them
auto camping across the United States
and Canada driving a 1927 Model A
that pulled a tent trailer behind it.
He has owned that Model A for 52 years.
It is one of the earliest largely complete
Model A’s known to exist.

Unfortunately the Model A was tucked away in
a dark corner when I visited.
For a retired man - David stays pretty busy.
I was there with my sound engineer Mike
about four hours & that was all the time
David could spare that day ….
