Concerning bendix spring bolt washers. Does it matter where the tab that bends down rests? Should it touch the outer surface of the bendix spring or should it be down in "the gap" and the end of the spring?
Thanks

The other tab of the lock washer has to be bent to match one of the flats of the bolt

For the tab that is bent up, I get mine just started bending before installing. Makes it easier to bend rest of way up after installing. The new ones are hard as heck and is why they should never if you can help it, reuse.

I always bend the other tab up a little bit, the bend it the rest of the way with a large pair of water pump pliers.

Other directions have noted the starter shaft can be bent by hitting that tab with a hammer to compete the bend.
