Model T copper head gaskets back to normal?

I just got an ad add from Macs for cars and parts including T parts. I still get the adds since I bought some parts from them years ago and hadn’t orderent from them since. And no I’m not a salesman for Macs!
Supposedly they have copper head gaskets now. I know Lang’s sells them again. Macs price is around 34.00 and I wonder if they are getting them from the same parts supplier.

Might be old news from Mac’s at that low price for all copper head gasket. Their website still says out of stock.
Lang’s has limited supply from first run, but price is up. Getting 2 delivered at Hershey this week!

Mac's (AKA Eckler's) gets all their parts from the dealers. Over the past year, they have not been paying their bills for Model T parts they have ordered for their customers from various dealers. As such, their accounts have been closed or suspended. Currently, they have an outstanding debt of several thousand dollars they owe for parts purchased from Chaffin's Garage. They have been written to numerous times and the debt has gone unpaid. Buyer beware.

Maybe that’s why I haven’t been getting their car catalogs as in the past. The online adds are all I get now. Hadn’t bought anything from them in several years.

Disclaimer: Not a sales pitch -not employed by anyone...
As a happy customer, I cannot say enough good about Lang's. The service, the shipping - the "all around" customer oriented friendliness is superb. That organization is my vendor of choice.

Thanks for the heads up. I knew it was bad news when I found out Eckler's bought Mac's. They are getting too spread out/varied in vehicle eras. I was wondering why my catalog request has gone unfulfilled.

Stick with our suppliers who are true T folks! Lang's, Snyder's, Chaffin's, etc. I can't understand how Eckler's stays in business doing what they do?

I received mine yesterday too. I've had a better head to replace the cracked one for two years. I have silicone gaskets, but I wanted to wait until I had copper.

I believe that Kevin Prus is the one having them made again.

I knew it was bad news when I found out Eckler's bought Mac's.
I crossed Mac's off my list thirty years ago, long before the Eckler's deal. That was in the days of ordering by snail mail, and they were just as good at being disappointing then as they apparently still are. It's surprising to me that they have survived this long while there have been so many other parts dealers who are competent at customer service.

Mike, I heard that the original gasket maker brought their diemaker out of retirement and had him rebuild the damaged tooling. maybe Kevin is making some too.

I may have been thinking about gas tanks when I said Kevin is making these.

I'll be a buyer next year after all you Beta Testers give a thumb's up after a successful year of driving with them.

Is this the filler peeking through, where the crimped over fire ring does not fully cover the face of the gasket? Hope not...

Question- is the filler material in the new gaskets just a soft single material or is composite with wire/metal imbedded in it? The gaskets with the wire imbedded filler material are very difficult to modify for larger valves. Thanks!

That is NO way to do business. I thought Ecklers was a reputable business... not so?

Appears to me the new gasket from Lang's has the all white composition material. I picked up a new gasket at Hershey from order placed to Lang's and the filler is all white, no wires.

Not to easy to photograph but it appears to be a white composite type material. I see no wire.

Didn’t the originals use asbestos in them? Nowadays I don’t know if asbestos is used because of issues with it.
And by the way after Iooking again I found that I had 4 good used ones I kept back from previous engine work. 2 copper and 2 steel ones. They aren’t bent up or creased so I won’t have to buy one. Even though the older gasket sets were fairly cheap I always saved the head gaskets if they were still good to use. Glad I did!

It is my understanding the head gaskets currently available from Lang's are a good gasket made by another source other than the source who previously manufactured them. The source that previously manufactured them agreed to have new dies made if all the dealers agreed to purchase a total minimum order of 5,000 combined. The minimum was met. They are in production and should become available soon. That may explain the differences you all are noticing.

You know, I may have made error then, the one with white center may have been the newest one in the plastic, I got two new ones, and my buddy took one. Now can’t remember if the new one was plastic sealed wrapped. If your new one was also plastic sealed wrap, then I messed up in my comparison pictures, they could be mislabeled.

I recall about 15 years ago when they started making head gaskets again, there was a problem with the white material. Steve Coniff got into the act, and had them change the center material to black. After that, there were no problems.

Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2005: Tom Carnegie "Tour America" Head Gasket

Tom Carnegie on Monday, August 21, 2006 - 04:49 pm:
The gaskets I sell are the brain-child of Steve Coniff. He was tired of the gaskets with the whitish center material "blowing out" after a few miles, so he contacted a gasket maker in the USA to make gaskets with a more blow-proof center material. Steve is more more into the band business than the head gasket business, so he turned the head gaskets over to me. I'll try to answer your questions.
Q. Is it made of graphite composite material?
A. I believe it is copper clad kevlar.
Q. How thick is it compressed?
A. About 1/16"
I question Kevlar because sheet forms are quite expensive and fabric would be difficult to work with when making a head gasket.

Personally, I would contact Tom and verify how they're made, before publicly questioning his product's pedigree, but that's just me, I suppose
