I have recently acquired a gauge that looks like it is out of a 26-27 Model T. It's a 20-0-20 gauge. Does this mean that it is strictly Model T, or could it be from a (gasp) new Model A? Thank you! I apologize for the poor camera quality, it's the best I have that I can upload pictures onto a computer.

Its a T based on the bezel. flat original, that and a -20 to +20 scale, Some later and repro bezels are a bit different. Model A's are -30 to +30 and are a good choice for Ts with alternators. The ammeter is not grounded so the wiring is the same to indicate the flow, current, of electrons to & from the battery. Now these are not very accurate and previous discussions note that the may fail to read a on the + scale when charging. So clean it up, be careful when opening it up to replace the glass (keep it bolted).

Simple way to tell with original meters, if it has Ford on the face it is Model T, if no Ford it is Model A. That one is Model T.

Yay. I'm glad its a Model T. Thank you for the "restoration" advice TRD*B2. I think that it will be a shelf piece as is. I like the character.

In the interest of keeping things stated on this forum correct, Model A did not come with a 30 amp ammeter. It’s design was similar to the 26-7 ammeter as others have stated. The29-31 generator is very similar in design to our Model T’s generators so 30 amps is overkill.

The reproduction 20 amp ammeter does not appear to be available from many suppliers at this time. While the 30 amp version will work, it’s accuracy will be questionable as it’s hard to accurately read a scale that’s less than a half inch wide. I do know from reading Model A articles on Fordbarn and in my personal experience that there is a great demand for a quality 20 amp ammeter for our Fords.

I wonder if this company could be contacted for the earlier Model T ammeter?
