Got a spacer to beef up my transmission spring. Am supposed to be able to install through transmission inspection cover. Questions: Does spacer go between spring and spring retainer, or behind retainer? Any tricks to how to compress spring to get spacer in place?

That accessory from Lang's is a new one to me, and don't know exactly how to place, should have been sent with instructions. There's no comment on Lang's on-line Q/A for this part:
Catalog say its goes in through the inspection cover, seems it could as its a two-piece split tubing I guess of brass, with a long internal thread to help lace it around the base of the spring. So, I would call Steve @ Lang's on Monday and ask. 800-872-7871

Steve is certainly a good option since it was bought there, but Stoltz is who, I think, developed it and would certainly know.

Hadn't seen that on Model T Ranch website, but found it under the product lists.

Looks like it laces behind the spring just in front of the support, guess you can get it in if the spring is relaxed, i.e. back fully out the clutch finger screws; and pry the spring back some?

That is how I'd go about it...do everything you can to remove tension and then lever spring off the seat. Might even try compressing spring with clutch and wiring a couple of coils with safety wire and then release clutch (and clutch fingers as slack as possible, too, of course).

For what it’s worth; Most all the times I’ve worked on various T’s with “slipping clutch” issues, the actual cause was not a weak spring. The cause was usually mis-adjusted and/or misaligned linkage, or mis-adjusted clutch fingers. The clutch fingers all have to be adjusted absolutely equally AND the spring needs to be compressed to 2”.

FYI... Use of Synthetic Oil such as Mobil 1 or similar can cause a slipping clutch.
