He needs to get on the level. Even that Ruckstell can’t help at that angle...

He even has chains on the rear wheels. He needs to get the T started and try to slowly ease back onto the road as the horses pull him forward. I have had a few situations like that in a car with another car pulling. One time I was going up hill and the engine quit. I rolled backward in the dark and got off the road. I got it running again but wouldn't go back onto the road. My dad got his car with a big chain to pull me out. That worked, but then we had to replace the clutch on Dad's car.

Ha ha ya scared me for a sec Rich! Thought it was you and your horses pulling Liz! Then I looked closer and seen its a "newer" P/U than she is! Whew!

Chains at both ends would give a little more control, and a full tank of gas and a couple of cans to spare would be prudent. I'd want some extra oil and water, too. 100 feet of rope and a walking dog might come in handy.

I've never had to replace the clutch in a horse !

It's fun to second-guess these old scenes. I'm thinking the bottom went out of that road in the thaw (looks like spring) and the mud was too heavy to negotiate, so the driver pulled over to more solid ground, but found himself high-centered. He's almost out, I think. The hitch is slack.

Rich, yes, it is fun to speculate.
I would suggest it is the driver who took the picture just as the
teamster hoked up. He would need to get back in to steer the car
as the team pulled.
The soil must have been sandy as there is no mud balled up on the chains.
Lastly, the car likely went in the ditch the night before but it froze overnight
as there are few tracks in this picture.

I think we can rule out Florida.

Maybe the driver is still in the car and passenger took photo? Noticed the hood is missing and check out the spare tire bracket on the drivers side.

I grew up in the city, after the horse and buggy days, so have only been on a horse a few times in my life. The problem with the clutch is that he slipped the clutch and raced the engine as he was pulling me out. His car was a Nash and they didn't have very good clutches either. It was right after the WWII and he had his name on a waiting list for several different cars. The first one which came available was the Nash. I can see why now. The clutch was not the only problem. It had a low water pump similar to the aftermarket pumps people put on their T's and that pump used to spring leaks so always had to check the coolant level after it had been parked.
