I just found an old gas tank gauge in my grandfather's garage, but can't quite figure out what model and year Ford it goes to. I came across this forum and thought it would be the perfect place to ask...Thanks in advance.

The attached diagram shows a drawing of the 1926 and 1927 cowl fuel tank located in the cowl above the driver’s legs. Below the drawing are measurements of the oval tank located under the seat of pre-1926 Model T’s. You can use the measurements to determine the year of your fuel gauge, but if I had to guess, I would guess your gauge is for the pre-1926 oval underseat tanks since the 1917 date is mentioned in the instructions. I don’t see how this gauge could be installed in a 26-7 cowl tank since there is a soldered gutter next to the filler neck. My vote is for oval tank use.

This gauge fits 09-25 underseat gas tanks. Use as-is for oval tanks or remove the protective tape on the threads, and screw in deeper for the older round tank.

When all else fails, read the instructions...

I have that same gauge NOS in the box - I've not taken the instructions out to read Scott but I "assumed" mine is for the round tank - wouldn't read correct or fit in an oval.

I have two of the Standex gauges. Each is marked on the dial, "round tank". An oval tank one would be shorter and the twist riser would have a different twist if they bothered.

Thank you for posting your question.

To summarise the above comments: the gauge is for a Ford Model T car between 1909 and 1925. (At that time a 'Ford' car meant Ford Model T).

It will fit any model of the Model T, as they all used the same gas oval gas tank (very early cars used a 'round tank').

It may not fit a 'Center Door' model, as this had a different square gas tank, but then again, it might fit that as well as they all have the same threaded opening.

As to its value - I can't help there as value depends on demand. It could be anywhere from $10 to $50
