Speedster Project engine video series
I'm probably going to be asking some questions so I thought I would start a new thread.
This is what we're talking about here: https://youtu.be/s3mVBXUq7XY
Doing one video a week if you want to follow along.
Found 18awg brass safety wire in it - that transmission has never been apart! Very exciting...
Now - question. The mag field coil (you'll see next week) is in near perfect condition, the issue is age and oil. I got a reading of 0.7ohms from the mag post to the block. I would like to strip the oil out if possible and re-coat it with something, gyptal, epoxy, something. Any recommendations? I've never tried to save one before, always just bought a new one. Concerned that brake cleaner or diesel might degrade the cloth and paint won't stick to the oil.

Re: Speedster Project engine video series
huh - crickets huh.
Next question:
I have gotten down to the cam gear - there is a gap between the teeth that goes "clunk" when I rock the crank back and forth - will this happen when it's running or will it stay pressed up against the crank due to spinning? I'm curious to know if that will "tick" at idle as the cam lobes come off their peaks...

Got video #2 done and out. Took your advice, skipped the spinning rims and all that jazz. Stationary camera - for the most part for our dizzy member. Hopefully you all like it and find it educational and entertaining!

That's a line from "The Avengers 2012" - Tony Stark... Hopefully you are enjoying the videos I make....Marians wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 10:15 pmFollowing your recommendation, I decided to forego the use of spinning wheels and all that crap. For the most part, a stationary camera is best for our vertiginous teammate. Ideally, it will be both enjoyable and informative for you.TheSpeedsterProject wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 6:34 pmGot video #2 done and out. Well as I am about to start my reassembly I will take a look. It has been so long, that I have forgotten how I took it all apart.
I will be interested in what you have done with coils, a couple of bits are missing off my covering also. My coil definitely works, but not looking forward to remagnitising the magnets.
