Magneto coils

I know the approximate length of the flat copper used in the magneto coils is approximately 11 feet. Was there any specific reason other than available room that it was this length?
The insulating tape that is used in rewinding them comes from 3M. What width is used? If the tape is wider is it trimmed to size after winding or folded up against the side of the coil before wrapping the coil in a binding tape.
What would the number be for the insulating tape from 3M and do you order it direct from 3M or would some place like Granger handle it?
I know I can send a coil ring off and have one rebuilt but that contradicts my idea of doing some things myself and learning from it.
Thanks for any information.

Dennis,
I use Tesa masking tape that stand oil to make the insulation of the flat copper string.
The tape is 19mm wide and need to be trimmed.
I will try to post a few (15) photos to show how I do it.

To finish the rebuild I put 3 coats of epoxy on the coil ring.
Good luck.

fourth and final serie.
If you have any questions please ask.
To do this, I inspired me on the MTFCA Electric book.
Good luck
