Are the brass Rands windshield hinges made in left and right hand
sides or are they identical for each side? They are the same on my
windshield and appear to be the same in the vendor's catalogues.

Hi Harry,
So from what I’ve read you’re going to want to have two hinges for both sides not a R and L. Here’s a previous post on the Rands hinges.

Original hinges are still out there. I’ve sold at least 3 pairs in the past couple years in getting a really nice set together.

Thank you for the response.
It took me a while to grasp the concept of both sides having the
same shaped hinges, but John's explanation of the necessary
parallel movement finally hit home.
An additional benefit is that I have the original Rands parts
that I need already.

Most definitely there is a right and left. You want the inside hinge to be on the lower panel so it is stationary against the spring as you lift or lower the top . Although you can use two rights or two lefts, one inside hinge will be on the upper pane. As you move the top up and down the spring eats into the hinge and will loosen the nut if not cotter keyed.
