1914 Speedster windshield

I am in the process of buying a 1914 Speedster that was built by a Ted Oney in Oklahoma. That car has the original monocle windscreen. I want to fit a full width windshield, preferably one piece. The firewall appears to have been customized: not sure. Anyway, I have attached two pics and wonder if anybody has an ideas for installing a windshield. Thanks! Bill

I would think that firewall would want something like this to give a little more support. It may need support rods.

Richard has the right idea - either utilize the original '13 - '14 w.s. clamps along with additional supports (homemade & longer) for placement at the lowered corners of that firewall OR replace with a stock dimension firewall.

Obviously, that firewall was "clipped" to emulate the shape of the brass radiator.

Many cars did that, and you can find a pleasing shape that works.

You might consider a Cambridge windshield. They work well and you can run with it on or take it off and run without if you want. I had a monocle windshield on my '14 speedster but when my wife was with me she didn't like getting buffeted by the wind or wearing goggles. The solution for us was a Cambridge windshield. Protects both the driver and passenger and I can run without it if I'm on my own. I know some people hate the way they look but they really do work very well.

You could swap out the firewall with a standard 1914 full width and height firewall and then attach the windshield with a couple of vertical supports like were used on the open runabout from 1911.

I would think electrical conduit would work fine.

A speedster is a home-made car, and in this case that means the firewall too. Maybe you want a stock firewall for this car. See Lang's catalogue for drawings of all the wood firewalls.

Thats one fast "T". I almost bought it about 10 years ago From Ted when he was going to move to Colorado. It was stored at Don Boltons place in OKC.

Ted took me for a ride and I lost several years of my life span, it was damn fast and loud.

William, can you give us some details on the car? The three exhaust pipes on the right and plug wires on the left suggest a Frontenac head.

brasscarguy knows his fast T stuff. If he says it's fast and loud, I believe him!
