Rebuilding a spare engine and found on inspection that I am going to need to go to
oversize tappets .
What is the recommended clearance between the tappet stem and the valve
guide ?
Thank you.

That will depend on what valves, original or new replacement.

Hi John,
Most of the suppliers sell a piloted reamer for the oversized tappets. I have found them to be a perfect fit. They are a little pricy
check with people you know they may have one. Or be in need and willing to share the cost.
Craig.

I have a reamer. I can come to your house and do the job. I am only 5 miles away.

It is Art from Huron, Ohio who has the reamer and it is John from Huron, Ohio who needs a reamer. Many many miles from Arizona..

Oops! after re reading your question, the difference in terminology from each end of the world :o tappet clearance would be the lash, but what you are asking is push rod clearance correct? Well Ford specs are STD diameter is .4355", to .4365" and push rod guide holes are .437" The 2 over size push rods are .015" and .030" OS.

John, you have my condolences on the loss of your mother which was shown in the local paper. I used to work with your brother Ti. He was well organized.
