I came to an odd realization today. I’m building an OHV engine with deep sump pan for my 24 touring car. With that being said, a stock wishbone won’t fit on the pan. What have others used in this situation. I won’t be dropping or relocating the front axle it’ll stay at stock height and location. Does anyone have a set of plans for relocating a split wishbone to the frame rails? I’m pretty sure that’s the only way I can solve this issue. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated!

In thr old days, thr hot rudders would split the wishbone. That solves the clearance problems but it creates others problems such as the axle now serves as a stabilizer bar. This will change the way the car handles and .maybe other issues.
This might be why a lot of these folks install a different front suspension.

I am sure at one time there were 2 different aluminum deep sumps (new repro) available. You have one but the other was "V" shaped at the rear to clear the wishbone. You could cut and modify yours but that would be quite a bit of work and aluminum welding.

You can make one off the lower drip tray (I have done it) by drilling on the flats above the rod troughs to let oil into the sump then build the deep sump by welding the box to the bottom of the drip tray. It can get tight for the bolts if you aren't careful. On the drilled holes I welded cup washers to hold the oil level a little higher and built a dam in the back of the pan for the same reason and this is also an OHV but I did split the wishbone to the frame and came off the top and bottom of the perch location (lowering brackets so no perch there). You will have to connect the deep sump to the pan with a horizontal hose into the front area of the flywheel so another hole and welding a nipple into the pan.

It would be much easier if you could find the deep sump that works with stock wishbone or just go with a stock pan. If you split the wishbone to the frame on a stock bodied car that may cause other engineering problems and not look right. I did these modifications on an open wheel racer.

A panhart rod will stabilize the front axle with split wishbones.

Oops, thinking again-mine probably won't work for you as it fits 26-27 pan.

You can use a 4 dip pan with your 1924 touring and get a deep sump with the V’ed back that clears the stock wishbone. I believe that Dan McEachern makes a pan like that so I would get ahold of him. I had one on a Rajo speedster and it worked great.

Split wishbones- I had collected ideas for several methods
I plan on using this set. But the interesting part are the brackets that clamp to the frame. Think its possible to make these. The rods can be fabricated a number of ways as well one of the many methods I included for the brackets that attach to the frame. --
This is a set that Hank Lee made that I may need if the one above don't work out. The require the earlier 2 hole perch. --
-This is an interesting design where the bracket on the frame is the wishbone cap from the pan and the rods fabricated and swedged into the ball end of a wishbone. -- --

Make your trade with Tim if you wish. If not, I have one casting on the shelf. It can be drilled for use on either a 3 or 4 dip pan, and it will clear a stock wishbone.
