Dealer question

Post by M.Sinclair » Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:51 pm

Hello,
I have a 1921 coupe that came with a rear tire cover that said: "Another Ford sold by F.P. Behlow
Watersmeet, Mich." Has anyone ever heard of an F.P. Behlow or have any knowledge of a ford dealership in watersmeel. It is pretty far up north, Ive been there once just to get a sign picture but there was no sort of historical society to ask.

Matthew,
I live 40 miles north of Watersmeet. Ill keep an eye open when visiting some of the smaller local historical museums this summer. Can you post a pic of the cover? Mike

My guess is that this is the man you're looking for. Name is right and Watersmeet is right.

Google mapped the town and looked for some buildings. There were only three that possibilities , the rest of the town is now off he main rerouted highway, US45, and very narrow roads. Could be that the tire cover was personalized as well to look real

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

So it wasn’t custom, benson ford had one mention of a waterskiet dealership in their archives. The only mention of the dealership is from the 1924 ledger and reads “canceled 8/18/1925. Dealer's request. Unable to finance. Unfair practices.” This was in reference to Mr. Behlows watersmeet dealership as well so everything seems to line up.
