Your Ruskstell shifter should mount behind the ball cap and not ahead at the hogshead flange. Move it back and adjust your adjustable rod shorter. Take fixed end loose from Ruckstell housing and adjust for proper hi to low shift.

From what I read the jury is still out on which side it’s supposed to mount on. The rod in the photo is as short as it will go now, I don’t think I can mount it on the rear. I did adjust it longer and got it to work but it still hits. I may have to wait till I get the body on to get it right.

The shifter body is in the correct location. The casting goes behind & is threaded for the hold on bolts.
But if being on the D/S flange would make it clear you would have to drill out the threads in the shifter casting.
I had this same set up once & The rod didnt hit.
Process of elimination.
The shift arm has some welding on the spring retainer. Could the arm been made from a shift lock arm thats a tad longer??

The shifter came from Chaffins and is cast from brass where it bolts to the tran s cover. The shift arm hasn’t been welded on.

If you are using the stock large grease dope cup then you are stuck with the shifter as mounted. But for a club tour car if you use a modern right angle grease zerk it should clear the shifter mounted to the rear. Some people have been known to mount the drive shaft tube upside down in order to grease the car from the under side. You can use a thin jam nut in order to get a few more turns of adjustment and you may be able to pinch the clevis a little in a vice to get some clearance.

The best combination of a Ruckstell and Rocky Mountain brakes is to use originals and forget all these modern modifications!

Problem solved with a thick washer.

I have always restored them back to original, this one is mine and the last one I plan on doing. I have been saving good original parts for this one for 25 years. I’m building it to be a great driver like I want it.
