I am piecing together a T engine from a truck load of misc parts.
Have never took one apart, so having fun like putting a puzzle together.
What is differance between the narrow and wide bands??

The wide bands are for a 26-27 transmission brake drum which is wider. Your transmission appears to be an earlier narrow brake drum so all of your bands will be the same width. Good luck witj your project!

The wide band is for the rear-most drum (brake) on '26-27 engines.
The engine/trans that you have posted a picture for is a pre '26 engine which takes all 3 narrow bands ( the brake drum is not wide)

Thanks!. the block I am using Date codes to about 1924.
Would the wider drum 26/7 trans fit an early car? Or is it a bit longer? driveshaft shorter??

The 26-27 transmission will fit in an earlier car, but in order to use the wider band you will need a 1926-27 pan and a 26-27 hogs head(transmission cover). The pedals can be swaped but the spacing on the 26-27 pedals are wider where the come through the floor board. It is also recommended to use pan corner reinforcement supports if you are using a 26-27 pan on an earlier motor.

No shortening of the drive shaft is needed to change to a 26-27 transmission.

When collecting T parts you will usually wind up with parts for different year T’s. Some will interchange without any trouble but others not so much. This goes for the transmission in this instance. If the engine and transmission is OK I wouldnt start mixing things up unless I didn’t have the correct parts.
That’s just me but others might want tp.

It looks like the stuff i have is all early, the hogs heads i have look the same.\
I had heard that later pans are differant, have not ivestigated that further yet..
All the engines I got are siezed, just good for yard art really. Thats what i got all the parts for.
Previous owner did not want all this stuff going to smelter, so I am making the best of it.
I did get one engine unsiezed, So am working towards giving it a chance to run again, Hence the jigsaw puzzle of building one from a pile...lol.
So one of my yardart pieces may drive one day

Don’t give up on the seized engines! More than a few rusted up and seized engines have been saved or brought back to life. Same goes for T Transmissions. A good soaking in kerosene, diesel and patience will sometimes surprise you.

One more thing! Lots of Model T’s have been built from piles of T parts. Try to get as many correct parts to complete an engine and chassis.
Then go from there. I built my first T in the 70’s and 80’s that way. It’s a 1919 Roadster that’s 95% correct.

I got this one (previous post) unsiezed, so hoping for the best. block frost cracked in several places.
Got students at welding school to weld up, at least give it a chance.
Got all valves cleaned up and seated.
Now to work at getting ignition that will work, from piles old rusty stuff lol.
And have another one soaking, see what happens.
This other engine (in post) went into this yard art open car, engine way beyond hope..
