About the only 2 square headed bolts that I know of would be the two used for the springs. Everything else would use ether carriage bolt or normal hex type cap screws. There are a few places even later that used square nuts. Chances are if you have run into square headed bolts in other locations, they were replaced by past owners, not factory. If you are in fact asking about carriage bolts, they are not the same as square headed bolts.

Mark, that is helpful information, thank you. Yes, I am referring to square headed bolts, nuts and thought that they were used in places other than the springs, and brake rod holders, spring clips, etc.

The brake rod supports used carriage. The spring clips might have used the square head, Model A did, not sure about T's. The ones on my survivor may have been replaced years ago they are hex head.

I have 4 T's and all spring clips have square head bolts on them...FWIW
In the spirit of transparency and forthrightness, 2 of the 8 were hex head bolts when I got one of the cars, and were marked clearly with "modern" markings on the heads as well as being 1/2" too long. I made square head replacements for those 2.

There were square nuts and spring washers used on the four coach bolts which hold the hood shelves on the frame. They are 1/4" coarse thread, but they are larger than the previously available square nuts for the older black coach bolts. Good luck finding the correct size, but at least the later square nuts are a good alternative.

The running board brackets were riveted to the frame.

You can find square head bolts and nuts at farm supply stores or farm equipment dealers. Ace hardware and other hardware stores have square headed bolts and nuts from time to time.

There are few square head bolts used on a '24, however if you have the upholstery out, the back panel is bolted together with them, at least my '25 roadster is. Those bolts are used on Model A's for the cowl, and they are perfect. The center spring bolts are available from Bobs. The ones for the spring clips are a special Ford design, and I don't know who makes those. I was able to find NOS for my car when I restored it. There are some more special Ford square head bolts used on the early cars for the engine splash pans, and gas line bracket that have a fine thread, and a cotter pin hole. I don't know if anyone is making those.

Fastenal has square head bolts and nuts available, both plated and plain finish.

Sorry but at this point the issue is getting muddy, with were to get square headed bolts (but useful if someone did need them). Except for a few locations as said above, they were not used. The question is in regards to 1924 chassis bolts. Any square headed bolt, except for the noted locations, would have been put on by a past owner with what was at hand. The only other place that would have used square headed bolts and not noted above would be the 6 engine main bolts, the clutch drum screw and the fan shaft which had two flats. The exception to that might be after market items not made by Ford.

Larry, thanks for the info on the bolts used in the open body, that will be a help when I get to the point of re-wooding the 25.

RE running board irons/supports; if someone in the past drilled the holes out you would have to measure and fit bolts or rivets.

The special body bolt I referred to above, is also used to hold the taillight bracket on 26 fenders. It really isn't a square head, but has a small 3/8" hex head. The nuts are square however. I gave out bum information above.
