I have a spare belly band and I would like to put it on the 22. Would it be a good idea to put some sort of pad between the band and the pan? I was thinking oil soaked leather or the like. Anyone done this?

Yes !! I cut out a 4”x4” from a truck mud flap and cut a hole for the oil drain. Once I used an old leather glove.

Yes, I cut a leather pad to fit between the pan and brace to keep the brace from rubbing.

I would think that a pad would only prevent some wear from metal to metal contact and not act as a cushion.
I'm planning on coating mine with Flex Seal Paste. I used this before and it dried to a hard rubber surface. The only concern is how tight a bond it will make with the metal. But its worth a try and same concern with other methods. I didn't use all of the contents of the jar in my last project and it dried hard after a few weeks when it was sealed tight. Thinking the tube might last longer since just the tip is exposed to the air.

I cut some sheet rubber to match the belly pan shape, no adhesive, and installed a few years ago only to be lubricated by leaky oil level valves from the side of the pan
