Wanderng speedometer swivel?

Post by Steve Jelf » Mon Mar 20, 2023 12:28 pm

The swivel for the Stewart 100 speedometer on my 1915 runabout is attached to the spindle arm by a clamp. Even with the nuts tightened to "almost before it breaks", the clamp wants to wander and disengage the gears. So I'm wondering about installing a 2696B spindle arm, That's the one with a hole for mounting a swivel. But I wonder about the fit. Would it cause the 1919 & later under-axle wishbone to interfere with the steering connecting rod? Would there be any fitment problems I haven't thought of?
The inevitable often happens.

I've had some good results tightening things like that by putting coarse grit, like coarse valve grinding compound, between the surfaces and then clamping. Coarse emery cloth might do as well.
