Optima 6 volt battery

Post by Moxie26 » Sat Mar 25, 2023 3:02 pm

Optima Battery ? Looking forward to 6 volt after tax refund arrives.... After looking at lower sales prices from independent vendors, bargains galore, and several opinions given by friends,.... I probably will purchase direct from manufacturer to get a true new battery. Others that have purchased thru cheaper sales have actually purchased used batteries that have been revamped to sell as new., Plus there was no warranty on them. ... There is a number code stamped on the top side of each battery stating the date of manufacture ........ Take a look on eBay for a battery case to put the Optima battery inside so after installation in the Model T , the battery will be stable.

The Optima is a great battery, but they will last longer if you have a regulated power supply meaning you really should have a volt regulator on your car. Also the battery cloaking device on EBay is in group 2 battery case. Not sure if that will fit in your "T". It will not fit in a Model "A" as that battery box requires a Group 1 battery.

I believe the model a battery is a group 2 battery because the terminals are not the same, I believe they are opposite polarity.... Positive and negative terminals are reversed compared to the group 1 Model T battery

The 6 volt Optima has terminals central at each end of the battery. They can also be mounted each way around. Generally in a T battery carrier they are mounted diagonally anyway, so it is easy to get the terminals organised to suit the cable lengths.
