GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
Is anyone using a GPS speedometer on their Model T? How is it working out and do the coils cause a problem?

Re: GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
Yes, I use an inexpensive Garmin for route and speed info. No coil problems.

I use Ulysse speedometer app on my phone. I use it in the Model T, skiing, in the plane, etc. It works great.

Re: GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
Thanks for the comments but I'm not talking about a phone app. I'm wondering about the GPS units that look like a speedometer used on boats and ATVs.

But Roger, that only goes to 60mph.

I use an app. called Speed Bot on my cell phone. Gives the same info a Garmin does. Works good.

Re: GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
I use a Garmin GPS any time I am driving. Previous units would not work on 6 volt, so i used 2 6 volt rechargeable hunting batteries connected in aeries. The current unit works very well plugged into my 6 volt car. Even starting the engine presents no problem to the Garmin.
Speed is observed and distance is recorded on each trip. A friend, whom I often tour with, also uses a Garmin connected to the car 6 volt circuit.

Re: GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
I have used a Garmin and a Navpal and a bicycle speedometer, and had no coil interference with any of them. BUT I am installing a real Model T era speedometer because it has a mechanical odometer that will never need a battery change that wipes out the accumulated mileage.
The inevitable often happens.

Re: GPS Speedometer ? ? ?
I was going to look into this awhile ago - might work with a period correct speedometer. The only issues may be matching up a speedometer cable and 12v.Roger Byrne wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 8:02 pmThanks for the comments but I'm not talking about a phone app. I'm wondering about the GPS units that look like a speedometer used on boats and ATVs.

I have a marine GPS speedometer from Cabelas approx $90.00. It is a 12v unit, just power & ground to install. Running with dist ignition, no issues.

Thanks John, that was the type of installation I am interested in! By the way Dan, they make them in a 120MPH version so it could work for guys like you too!
