That is really clever. New tyres do make a difference. They are softer then, and heat will make them softer. I cannot believe how squeaky clean and dust free that woodworking shop is!!!!

If you don't want to bother, most newer tyre mounting machines will take 21" rims with ease. My fitter puts a little pad of electrical tape on the three holding fingers before he puts my rims on the machine. No contact with the rim. The rotating arm rolls on bead on, then he stuffs the tube in . The neat trick is the way the machine can be adjusted so that the mounting arm/roller sits an 1/8" above the second bead an d it too does not contact the rim. The whole deal takes a couple of minutes. No paint chips, no cursing, no bead damage, no sweat. He charges me $5 per wheel.

I use this same method on my T and Model A wire wheels. Only difference is I first bolt the wheel to the spare tire holder on the back of the car. Man, it’s SO easy it’s silly.

When I attempted that procedure on clincher rims, it took me hours to get the bag remnants out from between the tire & rim ! Now I do it this way.

I use a HarborFreight tire machine to hold the wire wheels and accessory wire wheels. I haven’t tried the bag. The drop center T and A wires are very easy so I don’t see any need for tricks. Clinchers can be a problem in cold weather.

Clinchers have to be stretched. Drop centers have to be positioned in the drop.

Steven, I enjoy your videos. Your driving videos are well done. Good editing and sound quality, I can actually hear the car not just wind noise.

Your tips are excellent! If I may make a suggestion, at the point where it's time to push the beads on the wheel, I lay mine on a piece of cardboard on the floor. Stand kind of bowleged on the tire with your feet at 4 and 8 o'clock. Rock your weight from one foot to the other and work your way to 12 noon being careful not to pinch the tube between the bead and rim. This works well without the use of a trash bag, but I will try the bag next time.

I used the bag trick on a T tire after watching vids on the internet.Takes a while to pick the plastic out but it works

Agree. I tried it and it only worked barely half way around. Then the stretching issue won.
I took 'em to my local tire dealer that I always mention doing and the kid there has gotten so good, he barely leaves a mark.
Last set of 4 went on my red wire wheels on the Torpedo and not a scratch on one of 'em. For $20 a pop, it aint worth it for me to try em. For whatever reason, taking 'em off is a whoooole lot easier than puttin' em on!!
