I might start by pulling out a light bulb and search its voltage.

Not an expert but seeing the type of bulbs installed, I would think it 240. North America made unit would have screw in bulbs. You could take one of the bulbs out and see what is stamped on it.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

To Clarify...

Check the Voltage of the Red Bulb..

I'm thinking the two clear bulbs underneath are part of a Current Limiting Circuit.

Hi Anthonie,
I once found a article about uning a bridge rectifier on the power side to turn a growler into a magnatizer for mag magnets?

Just in case you don't have it. Found on the internet - operating instructions. Looks like its plugged into another device . I would also suggest checking the bulb for voltage

I'm think that the growler is hooked up to a main device for power leaving it up to you

Seeing that it's British, uses B22 based bayonet light bulbs, and has the European colour code for the mains cable, it can be assumed to be 240V.

Not enough information. The manual pics show an ignition and generator test machine. The growler appears to be a separate unit with its own power supply. I don't believe the test prods shown in the illustration are meant to be connected to any power supply.

See the Wikipedia article on growlers. It explains their basic function and how they're used. It has a picture of a growler similar to the one under discussion. If you look carefully at the picture, the label indicates that the unit pictured in the article is for 120 volt AC. I'd guess that the Octopus growler is intended for 240 volt 50 cycle. The basic growler is a fairly simple device. The Octopus growler appears to have more than one function. It ought to have an on-off switch and some evidence of where the power supply is , or was, connected. The test lead function probably would not need to work for the growler function to work.

When in trouble, do not fear, blame the second engineer ! 8-)

Check your bulb from part 2 of the instructions link
Given that the product was manufactured by The Armature Manufacturing CO., Ltd.. Middleton Road, Oldham, Engling, UK
I assume you got this in the UK. The OK has been 230v as is Europe. The main tester is is 230v The growler a continuity tester has a bulb < evidence 99.99999% 230v
