I got a reground cam in a box marked.295 lift. How can I find out what it is? Thanks Dan

Pics might help Chaffins regrinds have a distinctive profile to them that may be because the timing is changed on them?

Here picture My question is how can I tell if it is .295 lift? There is an address label from Antique Auto Ranch, but I don’t know if this is the cam from them or where.
How do I measure lift without putting in block? Thanks Dan

Measure the base circle. Measure the lobe. Subtract the difference that will give you the lift

Measure the lobe @ its tallest point & subtract the diameter measured 90 degrees. (the minimum) = cams net lift. Of course some lift is lost in the valve lash.

I just looked at every stock model T cam I have and none of them have a extra .042 of base circle to grind off and still not get into the shaft
of the cam and that cam still has a base circle larger than the the shaft. Maybe thats a high lift performance cam in a regrind box? If it's a
regrind I wonder what the lobe looked like before?

I see the first lobe heel is ground below the bearing surface. Likely a Chaffin grind.
I removed one for a growing knocking issue. It was also black finished. It did perform well.
This cam REQUIRES a front thrust washer set up.

A compadre called me tonight about your cam. If there is a star stamped on the gear face, its from Antique auto ranch.
If so, it was a favored montana 500 cam for a while. Would be a good performing cam.

Don't know about a star on the face; I've never noticed that, but Antique Auto Ranch (Tom Carnegie) does sell a reground cam, labeled as the "Montana 500" grind. They actually list it as .300 lift. I ordered one from Tom last year. I asked him if they performed well at low and intermediate speeds because of the lift and he assured me they would.

Just checked the face and SOB. There is a star. Guess this one of those cams.
