Ron & Karen Custer did a helluva job
by all accounts and fun was had by all.

Thanks for the response Jim. I thought there would be more about it on the forum. I guess they should have had a discussion about water pumps to attract more interest

Andy,

It is time consuming to upload one image at a
time to this or any other public forum.

If folks are reading this - they are already
on the internet - they should go to Facebook
to view the images and videos that are posted
about this and other events because that is
where the information is being posted.

I talked to Ron Custer earlier today and
congratulated him and his wife and their
club on putting out the effort to have
a Kick@ss Event ….

I don’t want to come across wrong, but MTFCA events should be addressed on the MTFCA forum.

Not everyone has, or wants a Facebook account. It seems odd that the venue of choice for communication seems to not be their own Forum (?).

Andy

I don't think you're coming across wrong. I think that it is healthy and useful for the BOD to hear the thoughts of its members and Forum participants.

Same here. Can't stand Facebook! I have an account. I look at it for 10 minutes every 3 months or so. If I have to go to a 3rd party source for information that should appear here, I just skip it.

That’s the same argument some folks had
when the Interweb started.

They believe all their information should
be contained in “ The Vintage Ford. “

If someone does not want to attend an event
in person - if they use the Interweb to seek
out information posted by others as a
courtesy - those folks should be prepared
to go where that information is posted.

So, Jim, the explanation has shifted from "gosh, it's too hard to post pix on our own Forum" to, "tough noogies, y'all just go to where we DID post things" ? Since you are not a member of the BOD or official spokesman, I'll assume both explanations are well...

But, if you do happen to be correct...if that's what it is, that's what it is, but it seems odd that an organization maintains a Forum which it appears loathe to use, at least according to you. I'm not sure that the BOD would entirely support that view, but the lack of information forthcoming does seem to lean that way.

The sad reality is that only a very tiny fraction of the membership appears to even know the existence of the Forum much less use it, and to encourage those few folks to go to Facebook as an alternative cannot help matters any.

I sincerely hope that the BOD will rethink their (apparent) preferred choice of venues for the dissemination of information. It would certainly seem to be in their best interest to maintain hobbyists'' interest in the Forum that they pay to maintain, over Facebook.

As such, I think Andy's inquiry is valid and certainly in no way out of line (as he was concerned about). If it makes the BOD rethink and reprioritize its own use of resources that they themselves pay to support, then all the better. If, on the other hand, there is some movement unknown to me, that the focus of communication should or will, gravitate to some other venue, then at least this serves as notice that total participation on-line will shrink somewhat. And perhaps that doesn't matter, in the long run...who knows? It would certainly free up $$ resources for the Club, not to mention Chris' time once he no longer has to maintain or moderate the Forum if that's the intended direction.

Personally, I support including more diverse venues for the dissemination of information for the betterment of the Club through increased exposure. I just think it's shortsighted to minimize the use of the Forum in lieu of other venues if that is indeed what is happening.

Take it up with them directly
Under the assumption that someone on the BOD reads the Forum, I think that is happening right now.

As for how that specifically happens, I'm glad you feel confident enough in your unofficial position of spokesman, to dictate exactly how that should occur.

I fully agree with both these points. If I wish to know about the performance of the Ford Motor Corporation I would go to their website not their social media.

Facebook is impossible to follow because it is not organized and postings vanish among the clutter. It is the biggest waste of time ever and I don't have the time to waste nor do most people who have a life. When I don't have time to check the forums I know the postings will still be there in order to read even days or weeks later. Show me a Facebook post from last week that can be pulled up as easily as one from here.

Sorry to start a thing. I did find the MTFCA Facebook page that I didn’t know about. No info from the meetings there. Just curious as to why the club doesn’t use the forum to promote itself.

Along these lines, I’ll start reporting some of our chapter activities on the forum. Hopefully it will give other chapters ideas and in turn they can share their own.

I do not believe that the MTFCA has a FB page. The page you are thinking of is the MTFCF. Model T Ford Club of Facebook. No America in their title, and no connection to the MTFCA.

I use FB all the time because my kids taught me how to use it. There is a lot of good information there, but you are right, it is very difficult to trace postings unless you posted something yourself on that page.

Sad to say, I do not think the board ever shares anything about their meetings anywhere. You have to be a board member if you want to know what they have discussed.

All the local clubs I belong to publish their meeting minutes.

I’d like to read meeting minutes from the MTFCA and MTFCI.

Where are they published?

Adam

I understand your point, but they are not likely required to be published per se. In most states, a charitable organization must make minutes available to membership, but not the general public. If they did offer them to the public, it would be their choice but not mandated by anyone entity.

Facebook, seldom see anything to do with it,not a member, and if you ever see my name on a profile on facebook it is fake
I would think if enough paying members requested access by internet to the information regarding meetings it would be made available.

There is a MTFCA Facebook page, it is little used.

I wasn’t asking for minutes from the meeting, but maybe a couple pictures and a brief note about how it went.

When I opened this link, I expected to see pictures of the meeting and some of the things which happened, such as pictures of the new officers, the Rosenthal award and Yumora award. Instead, it became a discussion of how to post pictures and about facebook. I personally do not use facebook and I understand the T section on facebook was started by someone who got booted from or got disgruntled by this forum. To me, this is and always will be the Model T forum.

Yes there is a FB page for MTFCA, with 1600 listed as the number of followers. "Little used" is an understatement. Activity there is virtually zero. There are other FB Model T groups. The largest is the Model T Ford Club of Facebook, with 52,200 followers. It is very active, often with several new posts per day, and a steady stream of new folks who have just bought or inherited their first Model T and are looking for information about it. I often refer them here. Some of the regulars are true experts, old timers whose names you would know. There are also novices who know some basics, and some who are just full of beans. A lot of posts are along the lines of "Here's my 1926 touring", and even if it's really a 1922 that's falling apart there will be compliments about how neat it is. My favorite posts are rare but a lot of fun: the guy who is totally wrong about what his car is, refuses to believe anything else, and believes it's worth a fortune. "Don't try to low-ball me. I know what I've got."

Some of the local clubs also have their own FB pages. I think the Southern Nevada group is most active.

For reliable advice and information, this is where I come. The percentage of people here who know their stuff is higher, and the baloney content lower. Content here is archived and searchable, while FB posts float off and down the River of Lethe.

Just a thought. If the event was covered here then it's really old news when covered in the next issue of the Vintage Ford magazine. Maybe we should just wait for that to come out and then make our comments.

And right now as of 5:47 Mountain Time, there are exactly 3 Club members on the Forum, along with 285 guests

Maintaining total radio silence on the Forum is a perfect way to protect Club goings-on from 285 potential interlopers who just might be inspired to join the Club. GADS!!

I doubt very much that a few pictures here would spoil the magazine's impact to its multi-thousand distribution. Especially considering that apparently plenty of pictures are already splashed all over Facebook, making the Magazine thing a fairly flimsy excuse if that's indeed the case.

Those 285 guests are not the ones who lose out by not seeing any pictures or hearing about the meeting - it is the Club that has missed out on the opportunity to inspire some of those 285 guests to become members.

And still no response from any BOD member or the host club, relaying chirpy cheerful news that the Meeting was Wonderful, and everyone will Love the article that will come out in the future. I absolutely do get the fact that the magazine is the official mode of communication and do not begrudge the editor or author(s) one iota for their copy space in the Magazine, but to wholly ignore the opportunity to entice some 285 guests into the fold (at this very moment and perhaps many thousands over the period of time this thread remains "up") seems to be a significant oversite by those who frequently bemoan the fact that it is so difficult to grow the Club and the hobby.

Sadly, it's simply a missed opportunity and an unforced error. Silence can sometimes speak volumes and in this instance it seems to say that they just don't care. I don't believe that is necessarily true, but it does make one wonder what perceived benefit there is to remaining silent.

Running an organization such as this is WORK and often a thankless job, but throwing a bone to folks in the form of perhaps a single posting should not raise any sweat.

Andy

I think your idea of posting your club's doings would be a very good and decent thing to do.

OK...I'm done beating the dead horse...
