Re: Tornado's
Thanks Norman, they split around St Louis, but Little Rock Ark and parts of Illinois got some twisters.

Tornado's
I live streamed from Jackson, Tennessee last night.
I end the day watching weather - plan the day
watching weather - change the day watching weather.
I wanted to get away from Little Rock, AR
and Memphis, TN by early afternoon yesterday
so I settled on Jackson, TN
and got off the road early.
About two hours after I stopped - my phone
exploded with tornado warnings
and the sirens started going off ….
No damage for me but many folks died
and were injured in relative close
proximity to me.
A sustained 22 mph plus tailwind out of the
west pushed me to Corbin, KY where I am
stopped for the day - dropping off tomorrow
and then I head empty to Virginia to pick
up a Model T.

Re: Tornado's
I always thought it was funny that my dad's sister said she'd be afraid to live in California because of the earthquakes, but she felt safe living in Oklahoma where tornadoes kill people most years.

Re: Tornado's
Thanks for your concern, folks, but I'm fine. Yes, I'm in Fayetteville, which is about 150 miles from where the tornadoes hit. They must have been pretty nasty -- five killed in the LR area.

Re: Tornado's
Folks hear the name of a state and they imagine the natural disaster in the news affecting all the thousands of square miles in that state, but the damage is confined to a tiny area. Even the most widespread disasters, hurricanes and earthquakes, cover relatively small areas.

Re: Tornado's
I’m in the Spencer Indiana area, and while my house and property are undamaged except for limbs down, the state park I work at was hit very badly. Our campgrounds are totally destroyed, and sadly, two campers lost their lives. The night security man got word early enough to get people out of their campers and into two concrete block shower houses, which saved a lot of lives! Over 20 campers were destroyed, flipped over, crushed by trees or both. The entire area looks like it was clear cut by loggers in a huge circle. A friend flew me over it yesterday, and the destruction is unbelievable. It is huge in the park area, then narrows as it heads east northeast but appears to have picked up speed and power. It went for miles on the ground just leveling everything and leaving just a debris path. My power at home was out for 43 hours, but I have a whole house generator that ran that whole time. The park has two different suppliers, and the one, Duke energy had a sub station destroyed, concrete mounting pads ripped from the ground! They are supposed to have it back on by later this afternoon. Our park Inn is running partially on a 200,000 watt generator. I had to cut my way down to the lift station for the main sewer pump, and get a 3 phase generator to it and hooked up. Family cabins took beatings as well with roof damage. Fortunately only one big log cabin was occupied and was undamaged. Look up McCormicks Creek State park!

That sounds really horrible.
Who would expect to die camping from a tornado ?
How lucky the shower buildings withstood
the energy of the tornado.

Re: Tornado's
A tornado touched down March 31, in Batavia, IL. On the other side of town from me. I don't believe there was much damage beyond trees uprooted. We had hail stones 2" in diameter.
