TT Rearview Mirror

Very few pics on the web of TT’s with mirrors. I would like to mount a drivers side mirror and have had no luck finding one. I like the looks of the hinge mounted brackets but dont like the brace going to the door panel. I have a couple of the extendable stalk type mirrors and can easily fab a “period looking” bracket. I would like to try to find an original first. Anyone have one for pics or possibly for sale?

We perused eBay and other sites for a "look" we thought would compliment the design/age of the TT. CAUTION: The best looking mirrors have severe lack of extension. Meaning, I am NOT able to see traffic behind the truck. Being as our TT is a C-cab, the windshield is not attached to the roof. I purchased a open car rear view, windshield mount, mirror. I have not mounted it yet but I am sure I will be able to see through the oval back window providing a direct view behind the TT. The two short side mirrors will give good view of both sides.
I recommend having someone hold a mirror about where you would like it to be. Look through the mirror to see if you achieve the results you require. Move in/out, up/down to find the approximate arm length, size, and mounting position that works for you. Then find a mirror you like that will meet those measurements.
Good Luck

If your TT has a wide and high bed (think grain) you will need mirrors that stick out far enough to to see past it.

I was lucky enough to acquire an original one for my TT recently. They are very rare from what I understand. Hopefully this is helpful.

Nathan,
Thanks a million for responding and making such a nice complete drawing! Now, my question is what keeps the assembly in location? I see its mounted on the door hinge ears but I would think clamping it with the hinge pin would tighten the door hinge too much? Is it functional on your truck?

Nathan,
On closer examination of the pics, I see the locking setscrew in the hinge bracket. Is it pointed to dig into the hinge ear?

My 26TT had the bracket but no mirror. I bought a mirror from one of the vendors and I can see traffic behind me just fine. After cleaning everything up the bracket wanted to vibrate out too much so I added a small piece of tin to keep it from doing so.

Mike, yes there are two drilled and tapped holes for set screws about 1-1/2” apart, they line up with the door tabs to keep the mirror bracket positioned to the door.

Thank you all for input on mirrors. I found and purchased a set of NOS mirror stalks on EBay that, after confirming some dimensions with the seller, looked like they would work. They arrive today and a quick preliminary fit-up looks like they should work perfectly. They mount on the hinge and have a locking setscrew which I will detent into the appropriate hinge “ear”. The distance between ears is 2” as is the TT hinge. Anyone recognize these as to era or application? Ill get a couple pics after mounting them. They will work until I either find or make a set of originals.
