I have recently purchased a 1927 Model TT and am doing a bit of research on it. The engine serial number is SC749255. Obviously the C is Canadian but I dont know what the S is for. Also the number is much higher than known list of Canadian engine serial numbers. Does anyone have any further information? Thanks John Ernst

Looks like a re number job.
Look around here for other number stampings & compare.

Look on frame under passenger door. Should be a number there. Should match engine number. If not engine has been changed.

To say that the "C" is obviously for "Canadian", is a leap of faith. It's a renumber job. Like Dan said, check the frame # and that will be what the original engine sported, too.

enough evidence presented to believe that the "C" either was original or is possibly intended to mean "Canada". My original post is flawed. Still believe it is a renumber job, though.

Canadian? Number is too high. SC749255 also the reasonable presumption that the S extra & the C is for Canadian, rather than the SC stud for something itself- SeCond, Smith's Car service --

Restamp / cover up?
Looks like a 4 and its not the same shape (top^). Different 9 --- but not enough Canadian engine number stamps to conclude anything. What would be interesting is to see what the size of the casting area above the water inlet is for a late Canadian Block for comparison

John - hate be be a "Betty Bummer" but that engine is earlier & not a '26 - '27 !

Perhaps I misspoke - looking at your carburetor thread, I see the "Made in Canada" on the head - does it have the wide clutch & brake pedals ?

Is Made in Canada cast on the block?

It does have wide pedals. I will look for "Made In Canada" on the block

Steve Bruce McCalley does mention in his book

"Generally all Canadian engine numbers begin with "C" but some exceptions seem to appear, with "HC" and "SC" being noted, as well as some without any letter.

But perhaps it is a replacement engine, not sure,

The block has Made in Canada on it. See the carb thread photo.

What I see is a double stamp. Very common with hand held stamps. The “shadow stamp” being a poor first hit or a bounce. To me the double spacing and characters all match.

I agree with Bushmike. It is a beautiful T. On my '27 the frame number is accessible by removing the floorboards The number is stamped on the top frame rail just ahead of the right door opening. I am however, assuming that this would be the same for Canadian T's.
