Does a spec exist for the installed ID of the TT axle bearing sleeve?
What about a spec for the bearing area on the axle itself?

Call ahead before ordering to make sure the items you want are in stock and not on back order.

You can figure it out.
Axle diameter is a common fractional diameter.(measure an unworn area)
The bearing is .562"
Sleeve to bearing clearance is minimal. <.005"

I agree that with (2) givens, I can arrive at the third. I would still like to see the ford spec and associated tolerancing if it exists. I believe that I read a couple posts indicating the sleeves wore very little as compared to the rollers. I cant find those old posts now.

Replacement sleeves are pretty much junk, they wear faster than the seat of your pants sliding down a rock scree.
My advice is DON'T use the new dealer sleeves but where possible use the 'best' old ones you can find.

The shim goes between the sleeve and the axle housing and remember that the shim is 1/2 the clearance you are closing up.

I find the clearance by fitting the bearing in with the sleeve to be used and feeler gauging the gap. Dismantle and then put in the appropriate shim.

I don't have a 'Ford standard' clearance, so set the gap at a 'snug fit. Sounds a little shade tree but it works well.

Mike, when installing a shim (once you have the right size) make sure you have a hole punched in the shim to match up with the grease hole on the sleeve (or you won't be able to grease the bearing later).

I clamp large 'jubilee' clips (hose clamps) around the shim and sleeve to squeeze them down and hold them tight to make installation easier. Slide the clamped shim/sleeve in the housing and release, move the clip out a bit and re-tighten the clip bit by bit as you slide it in bit at a time. Oiling the outside of the shim before hand helps.

This IS a fiddly step and can be a pain. I have sometimes had to have 2 or 3 tries before I get it in without ruining the shim, but patience will be rewarded.

Is your shim almost full circumference of the sleeve OD?

Yes, it is a full 'wrap' but with the ends cut in a chevron to match shape of the sleeve, just a shade shorter.
As the shim goes right around the gap it closes is twice the thickness of the shim.
It is also the full length (or width?) of the sleeve as well.
