I bought one of the repro carb heaters to put on my 22 with an NH carb. When it came I tried to install it, but I couldn’t get it to fit. I can’t get the opening into the carb while the other end is in place on the manifold. In addition, the tab that goes onto the rear manifold stud is too short. Are the repros just junk? Are there variations in the originals that mean I need to find the right one?

I like to have all the original bits so I want to put one back on.

with tin snips in one hand and the carb stove in your other hand, proceed as follows:

snip, fit, snip, fit, snip, fit, swear a blue streak, snip, fit...repeat

by the time you have 1/2 of the stove lying on the shop floor in little pieces, the remaining 1/2 should fit the carb and mount to the engine OK

Hint: once everything fits, lay a washer over the wimpy fingers that are supposed to be captured under the clamp nut...scribe an arc on the fingers just tracing around the washer...remove all and then soft-solder the washer over the fingers right up to the scribe line...this will allow for a slip-proof solid connection over the manifold stud over the clamp and under the clamp nut...now you're done.

I see you have a ‘26 and ‘22 T Richard. They take different style carb ‘heaters’. I just sold 4 originals to Petaluma CA last week and have one original ‘26-‘27 carb heater pipe left.

My 26 is a speedster with a Rajo BB head so no carb heater on that. I will see if I can fit the repro. If I can’t get that to work, I will look for an original.

Thanks for the tip Scott. 10 minutes with some clippers and the foredoom tool and it fits. There was not even any swearing involved!

Reproduction carburetor hot air pipes are not made like the originals

My 22 is not a show car. I will keep my eye out for an original, but this works fine.
