I think I am done with brass grease cups. I will use steel now. The grease gun would not come off the zerk fitting inside the cup and I ended up breaking off the upper portion of the cup (drive shaft bushing)'
What is the easiest way to get the remainder of the cup out of the torque tube? With an easy out? This is the small grease cup. Thank you.

My thought is you have the gease cups with a zerk inside? Grease zerk couplings usualy only will not release unless there is a great deal of
pressure on them. Is this on the ball cap or the drive shaft bushing. In either case the depth that a easyout can go into a hole causing other
issues . And what would cause the pressure build up? A spun shaft bushing or hole plugged with old hard grease. Checking the depth of the
hole may be crittical here. If the space beyond the end of the broken fitting is short then cutting off a easyout or using ashort tool ( usualy
sold by the big tool MFGs but I think HF has something in that line) I have a set of Mac Tools extracters $200- $300 but they are like a fire
extinguisher, shot gun & a prachute if you need one & don't have one you may never need one again. I put my grease cup caps in the lathe
bore a hole & tap for a grease zerk so I can grease and have some in the cup for later in the tour and don't have to carrie a grease gun
with me (I do anyway because some people don't )

If the tip of the grease gun is stuck on the zerk, some grease gun tips will unscrew from the gun. By unscrewing the tip, you relax the 3 or 4 jaws in the grease gun tip that are clamped down on the zerk. Should just gently release.
Check your grease gun tip or change to the locking tip you can release.

I have been working on cars since my teens and have had problems sometimes with my grease gun getting stuck on a fitting causing me to shout some words that would not be welcome on this forum. SO--- I googled " grease gun stuck on fitting" (zerk) and found out I have been using my grease guns fitting all wrong. If you look at the end of the gun, you will see a knurled collar. You should keep this collar hand tight only. grease the zerk and if you can't remove the gun simply unscrew the collar a tad and it will come off. The saying is " You should learn something new everyday" I learned this when I was 74 years old. bobt

I have used this tool with great success on stubborn blocked fittings refusing to take grease.
It forces light oil or a solvent into the grease fitting, unblocking it.

If you use an easy-out, just be sure it doesn't go too deep into the remainder of the zerk fitting. Your driveshaft won't be too far beyond the end of the zerk. A properly sized easy-out should work fine.

The best way to use a grease cup is to use it the way it was intended. No need to put a zerk fitting inside. It's a lot easier to fill the cap with your finger and screw it down, than to mess with a grease gun!

Cheap trick : take a torx bit that is slightly bigger than the hole and tap it in there with a light hammer, now carefully unscrew the remainder of the zerk and presto, put in a new one.

i fitted my greasegun with one of these, end of problems, will fit any zerk and will always come loose, no matter how much pressure

Kaiser's removal technique is excellent advice and will likely lead to more certain success than an easyout in this instance. I say that because the threads on the greasecup are pretty flimsy and are tapered...the tapered easyout will tend to simply expand the part into the tapered hole, while the torx bit is straight, will cut it's own parallel grooves and almost certainly grip better.

I have used a hex key in this exact instance and honestly if ever put in the same situation again, will try a Torx...I really like that idea.
